28The argument over the presence of other forms of life in our galaxy rages on unabated, as it has done for at least the past 100 years
Sometimes when we stop and think about it, the very thought that there is human life on Earth is as inconceivable as the notion that there may be other forms of life similar to us, or maybe different.
Exploration of space from our planet, in true terms, has just begun. When you consider that man has walked this Earth for a few thousand years, yet only in the last fifty has begun to even begin to scrape the surface of exploring this massive galaxy in which we live. We have conquered the Moon, and are examining Mars but that is as far as it goes.
But what if there are other forms of life out there, who are more developed than we are on our little planet. There are many highly intelligent people who sincerely believe that we are definitely not alone, and that fairly sophisticated life forms are examining us at all times, to make sure that we are not hostile and these fairly primitive attempts to reach about beyond the Earth’s atmosphere are done for peaceful purposes only.
Every now and again, we hear reports of sightings of what appear to be UFO’s that are patrolling well within the Earth’s atmosphere. One of the earliest took place way back in the nineteen seventies, when a flight of Russian Mig fighter planes came across two objects in the sky that they assumed were intruders from the West. In those days before Glasnost, relations between the East and West were very strained. The pilots were unsure what to do about these objects, which were flying erratically at high speed, then suddenly stopping almost dead.
They were in the process of receiving permission to engage these unidentified craft, when they suddenly merged as one, and flew of at a remarkably high speed. Never to be seen again. Evidence of this encounter is contained in a short film taken by one of the pilots. You can view this film below.

Bearing in mind that this film was shot over thirty years ago, the quality is fairly high. There is some evidence of fabrication, and it is possible that the shots of the planes taking of as well as the “crowd scene” were added into the film for effect. The quality of these shots were much higher than the actual scene where there two objects merged. And what Roger Moore aka James Bond was doing there, nobody knows.
The whole question that remains now is: what would Soviet Russia of the liberated eighties and nineties have to gain by showing these images if they didn’t want to strengthen World opinion that there is life out there. They are very similar in style and quality to those of the NASA shots that were issued much later. Maybe they just wanted to make an effort to show that they were not as far back in the space race as they really were in those days.
There is no reason to believe that these questions and the uncertainties will continue to rage on for ever. Maybe one day we will make actual physical contact with people from another planet. Until that happens, these little snippets of ten to fifteen seconds of grainy film might be the best we can expect.
